Hot Clio RS joins rugged Hummer V8 this week on RPM

On paper, the latest product from the Renault Sport stable looks very much like its predecessor. But not only has the Clio RS undergone a substantial facelift: it also benefits from a host of under-the-skin improvements. The result is a more tractable, more user-friendly and ultimately satisfying pocket rocket.

Hyundai’s i20 is in-the-metal proof of the Korean auto maker’s continued progress as an auto maker. The attractive hatchback ticks most of the important boxes, and delivers a compelling alternative to more traditional choices in the compact car sector.

Hummer may well have been sold to the Chinese, but the brand continues to soldier on in SA, and the latest version links a V8 engine to the big SUV’s robust 4x4 drivetrain and over-the-top appearance. It could also be the pick of the Hummer bunch. We go off-road to find out.

Finally, the sport of karting has been the spawning ground for many of the modern-day Formula One stars. Even more interestingly, South Africans are a force to be reckoned with on the international karting scene, with local racers regularly bringing home world titles. We drive some of the current-generation racing karts to find out what makes this highly competitive form of motorsport tick.
